Sombra Lamp 2018

Sombra is the newest lamp to the touching space collection. For this Lamp I wanted to make it using the least amount of materials I could that were easy to assemble and disassemble (recycle if needed).Made from Steel and recycled Aluminium. My idea was to focus on the shadow (Sombra in Spanish) where the base became the shadow of the lamp. A play on the line between the physical and the metaphysical. What is the lamp and what is the shadow?

Fame and fortune…

Bill was the last standing lamp I made which was sold all over Australia. I made approximately 200 Bill lamps and these are the last of them. Full disclosure: The timber components have not been made by me!

They have ended up in The Australia Pavilion in Venice (where we got to attend the opening!), Parliament House here in Hobart, Franklin Restaurant (RIP..), countless offices, restaurants, houses and Hotels.

I designed Bill for it’s aesthetics mostly. I like the way the base is joined to the Stem (an unlikely union) and the way the flex travels through the lamp, and after receiving feedback (simple is best in a commercial environment) about George and Ibis lamps, which had more moving parts I decided to try and simplify the design (although it isn’t simple!) for ease of transport and assembly.

Shades come in a variety of house colours. 2000mm (h) x 500mm (w)

George is 2000(h) x 1000(w) mm. Shades are available in a variety of house colours.

George followed on from Ibis in 2010 with the need to make a lamp that took up less space. George has similar aesthetics to Ibis, flex that weaves in and out though the timber, steel base for stability and small replaceable timber components (separation for ease of assembly and recycling (if ever needing!) was important to me).

Ibis Lamp 2008

Ibis was inspired by Balance. Cranes that fly and cranes that move. Made from Tasmanian Eucalyptus and Powder coated steel. 2200-1600mm High, 1500-900mm wide. Recyclable and replaceable.
